Every few months, DNA puts the spotlight on one of our fabulous members.
This time, please meet the talented Joyce Lau.

About Joyce
Joyce joined DNA in December 2009 and hasn’t looked back since. She became a DNA member to connect with other professional women and finds she gets to do that while having fun too! Joyce is continuously impressed with the list of activities DNA offers, from trying new restaurants to going outdoors to visiting the spa.
One thing you might not know about Joyce is that she loves to bake. You may find her nose pressed to the window of the oven because she likes to be creative with recipes and is never sure how they will turn out. So far she’s happy to report there have been no kitchen nightmares yet!
When asked to describe herself in three words, Joyce used “insightful,” ”creative” and ”put-together.”
Joyce’s Business
Joyce is the owner of an image consulting company with two brands, called Fashionista Bootcamp & Yummy Mummy Makeovers. Her business has been in Vancouver for five years. Fashionista Bootcamp specializes in professional women and fabulous women over 40, whereas Yummy Mummy Makeovers is targeted towards moms with young children.
Joyce has always had a flare for dressing family and friends. While completing her graduate degree in business, it dawned on her that she could dress people for a living. After training in New York, Joyce has created a dream job for herself in Vancouver. “The best part of my business is seeing the change in my client’s confidence & attitude once they are able to see that their outer appearance reflects who they are on the inside,” says Joyce. “I love hearing the success stories – getting noticed at work and getting promoted – even landing dates!”
Women who complete Joyce’s image consultation learn what the best clothing choices are for their own body type, lifestyle, career and personality. This takes the frustration out of shopping because women know exactly what to look for. No more clothes that still have price tags on them!
Joyce’s Top Three Fashion Tips
1) Fit is key. When clothes don’t fit well (i.e sleeves are too long) you immediately look frumpy & unprofessional. It’s the details that really matter so make friends with a tailor.
2) Black isn’t everything. Black is a high-authority and commanding colour. Use it strategically in business and don’t overdo it. Add colour to your wardrobe for an easy way to freshen up for Spring.
3) Live a healthy & active lifestyle but don’t wait for tomorrow. Learn to dress your body appropriately while reaching your goals. By wearing the right clothes, you can flatter your body and minimize distractions at work.

DNA no longer hosts educational seminars. Instead, we recommend all Professional Women’s Network Events and post their seminars on our site
Professional Women’s Network Presents: The PWN Power of Connection
Join us for a special evening focused on the Power of Connection. This highly interactive session will explore what prevents us from reaching out and making connections—professional women often cite lack of time, other commitments and fear. We’ll address what stops us and why we simply must get over it by understanding our compelling need to connect with others. Then we’ll roll up our sleeves and learn how to become more skilled at connecting with others and how to create the opportunity to do so. This special PWN event is intended to help professional women make powerful connections that will last a lifetime…starting with the ‘30 day PWN Connection Challenge’ that we’ll unveil during this session.
Two professional business women,Tracy Theemes and Cynthia Roney, who were brought together through their connections, will lead this special session and share stories of how their connections have made a difference, what works, what doesn’t, and how we can all learn to become better at connecting with others. Tracy and Cynthia will introduce the ‘30 day PWN Connection Challenge’ and actively engage participants in this lively, hands-on session.
Why Connect?
1) Survival: to grow a business, get a job, protect our careers, learn timely information, plus more!
2) Efficiency: leveraging our people connections saves us time and money in achieving our goals
3) Need for Pleasure: we require nurturance, personal relationships and laughter to keep us fuelled as women
30 Day PWN Connection Challenge Goal: To demonstrate that by creating connections, we derive powerful personal, professional and business benefit. PWN will announce the winner at the end of 30 days, prizes awarded.
